Mileage

re-set your tripometer when you fill up. Fill to approx. same level each time. Divide miles on tripometer by gallons (120 divided by 2.6 = 46 mpg.) Reset tripometer and do again. Art

I think my engine is starting to loosen up a bit now. She has over 4000kms on her, and when I went to Montreal on Sunday, I got about 45mpg on the highway (average speed 120km/h = ~70 mph) with a little city driving as well. On the way home with the crazy headwind, I only got about 40mpg.
Cheers!

That's also the way that I figured my mpg. Use the trip meter and fill to same spot every time. I took a small 200 mile trip last week and if was about 2000' higher elevation. When I got home, I filled up and found that I got around 53-54 mpg. When I am riding at a higher elevation than where I live, for some reason my mpg goes up a little.

I am averaging between 37 and 42 on the highway (depends on speed, headwind, passenger, etc.) and in town 30 to 33, although I did have one episode when I was out playing with the boys that I only got in the mid to upper 20's in town and short highway jaunts...

these are really close to my numbers as well....my last four tanks have been 36, 41, 40 and 39. and i definitely twist the wick...lol...
but i noticed the biggest increases with the early shifting..but those aren't any fun.....
my suzuki marauder (805cc vtwin) barely averaged 32-35 without me going bonkers with the twisty thing. so i'm a beyond happy camper...though when it gets it's 7500 service, a mention of the mileage will be made.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I was getting 43mpg with the stock 88B motor and slightly less now that its a stage-II with cams and a 95" upgrade. When I added the stage-I kit early one, the dealer messed up rejetting and it was running way to rich and mileage went to the 30s - pipes were pretty black at the ends which was another sign of a problem.

So I should run out the miles (woo hoo!
, fill it up from right at the red mark to full, making note of how much gas precisely was used, run out again to the same red mark, then do the math????I've got a friend on the '03 FLSTC that is an EFI, whereas mine is a carb FLSTF.. He believes he gets better mileage due to being injected.
Is this True?
I think it has more to do with the amount I get into the throttle.. The old carb engine is just too much fun.
Took me a while, but I finally got it.
1. Fill tank to top
2. Set trip meter to 0
3. Drive till you need to refill
4. Fill tank to exact same level as previous fill
5. Note on gas pump exactly how much gas was added.
6. Divide number on trip meter by the number of gallons added when you re-filled.
As long as you fill the tank to the same level, the amount of gas you add back in on the refill
is the exact same amount that you used.
The exact amount you used will be on the pump after you fill up.
The exact number of miles you traveled will be on the trip meter.
The rest is simple math.

Correct!!! Snd it really doesn't matter at what level you fill up. You can be 1/2 empty one time and 3/4 empty the next. All that matters is that you fill to as close to the same level as you can every time and that you re-set the tripometer after every fill-up. Art
