I bought a softail CVO exhaust system for my Brossbones on Ebay for $100 delivered. I proceeded to punch out the baffle plate (used a piece of rebar and just whaled away at it till it punched through (3-1/2" holes per muffler). Then I wrapped the pipes, painted them black and mounted them. No change in performance, looked black (duh), and sounded slightly better. My recommendation.... don't bother.

Here is the key and since I do not know exactly what the baffles on your xb is you need to check. However my exhaust was a brand new $40 take off from an 08 NightTrain. The key is $ and noise. I had a Python and even with the quite baffles it was too loud and lacked bottom end and I rarely exceed 3500rpm. The new at the time takeoff was just too quite. On my bike there is only one plate in the baffle system so you must think small since just knocking it out sounds like crap and you loose your bottom end power. I got a 1/4 x 12" long twist drill from Home Depot. I had planned on two 1/4 ones since I had done it on a 1100 Yamaha. The Yamaha had two baffle system with two stop plates unlike the Harley and I only drilled one from the inside. One the Harley one 1/4 was all it took. Not two much louder at cruse but lot more raspy cam sound at 1000 rpm. Its real easy to add a couple more but one is all it took.

Hey Jakesdad I also have a set of CVO pipes from a friends FXST and was thinking they might improve my sound but now I don't think I will go that route. Thanks for that great advice.

I've heard two bikes that the guys drilled them out... IMO not a good sound..

I'd compare it to a Volkswagen farting...

My son did it to his 07 Wide Glide. It sounded kind of hollow. Not a real harley sound. He then put on a set of Rush pipes, 2", and realized how much low end power he'd lost. Get a set of pipes.
