bobtail fender struts strong enough?
Anyone have suggestions on who makes strongest fender struts for wide tire conversion? Looking to add the wide 9" bobtail fender for 180 tire, but want to maintain passenger ability when needed. Cutting the factory frame struts obviously has impact on this so are there manufacturers with bolt on struts strong enough to carry 135lb passenger without concern?
I did one for a friend of mine and used some real old struts. Like from 84. The newer ones are just covers and need to be boxed in to carry a load. The first year Softail fender struts are solid and super strong. They mount the same as the newer ones but since they don't form around the mounts on your frame they end up being wider letting you run a wider fender. I can't remember how wide it ended up being. I just cut his fender in half and added a strip down the center.

Here's the beefy solid struts I ended up using. I can't remember what year exactly...I think 84. They're from the first year for the Softail.
What's cool about the solid ones is that if you want to bob a stock fender you can cut & reshape the struts pretty easy.
