Default ohh snap @ 75mph
Busted a riser bolt on the freeway doing about 75-80mph.. Scary ****. Be sure to check your bolts. This could of turned out ugly for me

How the hell do you break a riser bolt? Too tight? Too Loose? I'd be a little freaked out too.

wow, that would suck big time. dont know if I've even ever heard of that before while riding, glad you got her stopped safely.

looks to be a cheap cad plated pot metal bolt, replace it with a Grade 8 fastener my friend

glad to hear that you lived to tell the tale

Holy crap! That sucks glad to see you came out of it with no real damage.



Note to self, change out riser bolts this weekend just to be on the safe side.

Most, if not all, stock HD riser bolts are Grade 5 from the factory. On our Stealth Riser Extension Kits we include Grade 8 bolts.

If a bolt is over tightened it may fatigue the metal...it may hold for a while and then break later.

Read a very informative article by Brew Dude a month or so ago about how using loctite and/or lubricants WILL give a completely different reading when torquing to "spec".

I had an acorn nut fly off the windshield at about 70 miles an hour and it went by my face like a bullet if it had hit me i am sure there would have been a mess i probably would have went down. it just shot by like a bullet i could not believe it.

Looks like it was overtightened, cheap bolts, damn thats scary for sure. It's a 1/2" bolt you would think it can't break, but they can if brittle
