Wow, I bet you need a new seat too! Glad to hear all is well. Certainly doesn't look like factory hardware. Given the fact it was riser bolt, and looking at view provided, I'd guess shear stress induced the failure. Most likely from getting off and cocking wheel to the left. Repeated impact to a low grade bolt could have created a stress crack which eventually left you changing your shorts.

Again, really glad to hear you landed it.

Agree with above posts......Overtightening....the bolt sat there under extreme stress, and it finally gave. The other bolt is about ready to snap as well.

Go with grade 8 bolts, and use a torque wrench.

Glad you're okay.

Well I've had one break too and I'm going the other way.I'm sure mine had worked loose as I was noticing a little extra play in my bars.I think the constant rocking back and forth finally caused it to snap.Like the OP said, nothing good can come out of this situtation

Rocking due to faulty bushings will put stress on them too. Scary stuff. Glad it all worked out for the good.

Holy crap that's scary....glad you're alive. HEY DK-will your riser extensions work with street slammer bars (1-1/4" diameter)?

Never mind...just followed the link and read the specs. do you make any extensions that are a larger diameter? thanks

Wow! Glad you are okay! Had a tire blow at 80 but was able to flop around and come to a stop without going down. Lucky it was the rear tire. MSF class saved me I remembered what to do.

And I thought I had problems when my bars slipped while riding! I've heard of it happening but only with hollow bolts you can run the wires through. That was a solid bolt. It's been said and I agree 100% with it. Get Grade 8 bolts and a torque wrench. And be aware, loctite and other similar products will change the torque reading. It's called "wet" torque.

Damn, I had my lock pin bolt in my apes snap on the highway. but it still was clamped so there was only a little bit of sliding back and forth on the bars till i replaced it with a higher grade metal.

Good thing your ok
