I suddenly have two new issues with the front end.
Doesn't feel like the usual neck bearing issue with the softails.
At low speeds, under 20mph, on a long sweeping turn, I feel a bit of a wobble. And at hiway speeds, 70mph and up, I get a lot more vibration in the handle bars. Really numbs the hands.
I wonder if anyone has experience with this and/or does this sound like a front wheel possibly out of round or maybe loose spokes ??
I'll be taking to the shop for a new rear tire this week and will ask them to check the front. But I'd like some good info before I get the usual BS from the HD shop. I can't get it in to my normal indy right now.
tire pressure is ok. no cupping that i've noticed. will look closer.
feels to me like a balance problem or rim not true. came on suddenly while out at laughlin last week.
there may have been one or two potholes i didnt hit
That, or bent spokes is what I'm thinking. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this before and if these symptoms sound like a rim problem or some front end problem.
anyhow, I'll be taking it in tomorrow to have it checked out.
Sounds very much like loose spokes. Happened to me years ago. Get the wheel checked. I would check neck bearings just for fun though, feeling for a cupped race.
I chased a similar problem down recently. Took a few weeks. I checked the tires, rim, spokes and bearing adjustment. I hadn't filled up the neck with grease so I loosened things up, filled the neck with grease and then set fall away. Of course that's not the way you're supposed to do it, but the wobble is gone. Previously on decel the bars would visibly shake from side to side, now I can decel with no hands on the bars andit doesn't wiggle at all.
