I have a 07 Deluxe, and the stock seat is IMO crap for anyone over 5' 6'',
I have a Mustang Solo with backrest which is great, and I also have a late Heritage seat that is also real comfortable, two completely different seating positions though, The Mustang seat sits you upright and you get to push against the backrest, wheras the Heritage seat I find allows me to slouch a little.
Spent about 12 hours straight (minus meals and gas stops) seat time yesterday, and although I'm ready to go again today, by the time the 9th hour rolled by, I had a severe case of numb-bum...
That seat has GOT to go! Right now I have the badlander saddle, but am open to some suggestions...
What seat are you running on your softails? Do you like 'em on long trips? Will it fit on my '95?
I'm thinking memory foam... Maybe some Dr. Scholls Gel material...
Man...been there!!!!! I don't know what to tell you except that on all three of my HDs including my latest '10 FLSTFB...The stock seat sucks!!! Frankly...even the HD aftermarket seats are not good highmilers. Last one I had on my old Dyna was a Badlander...it was so painful I sent it to meancity motors to have foam inserts installed...then I sold the bike only a couple of weekday after I got the seat back.
Here's where I am....this very morning....I just ordered a C&C Sporttourer from Chuck at C&C....full leather .... stitch pattern front and rear...and biker gel insert....set me back about $480...including shipping. Was looking at similar Lapera Sorrento...but it would have been upwards of $600 or more. I'm going for a 2000 mile run next month and I don't want an azz transplant after.
For temp minor help....stop by a HD Stealership and see if they have some pink powder for Monkey butt....keeping your rear end dry helps....but....I know just how bad it can hurt after 450 miles on a bad seat. A fattie and six oz of Gentleman Jack along with 3 Advils will help ONCE you stop for the day....Do not try this while riding ;-)
I seem to be able to go forever on the seat on my Deluxe, I'm not sure if it's the seat or the fact that it just fit's my bum. Ergonomics are everything but I think everyone has a limit as to the number of hours you could sit in any seat. I have a habit of slouching in my seat and sometimes this can lead to a numb bum..
for my deluxe i bought it with badlander seat,it killed me and the wife after 20 miles, bought the stock solo seats, that lasted 40 miles i am 6'2 ,so i took it apart and shaved it down on fri.,after my almost 300 mile trip i think i need to add some foam or gel and take more out of the back,, *** is killing me now,
