Spent about 12 hours straight (minus meals and gas stops) seat time yesterday, and although I'm ready to go again today, by the time the 9th hour rolled by, I had a severe case of numb-bum...
That seat has GOT to go! Right now I have the badlander saddle, but am open to some suggestions...
What seat are you running on your softails? Do you like 'em on long trips? Will it fit on my '95?
I'm thinking memory foam... Maybe some Dr. Scholls Gel material...
I've got an '05 train that also came with the badlander. It's a great looking seat, but I'll have to agree with the lack of comfort for those all day runs. I upgraded to a harley seat with a little more cushion for myself and for the lady. I don't believe they make them anymore but here is a link to one I found on ebay.
It's certainly not as cool looking as the badlander, but you're going to have to trade some bad *** for some comfy ***. It's definitely more comfortable, and I sat in it across country 2 years ago, 7500 miles in about 15 days of riding with a couple 750+ mile days. Not too sure of the fitment for a '95 though.
For the record, many breaks were taken. My riding buddy's KZ could only go 100 miles on a tank, so we were stopping for gas every 80 or so.
jreichart- I couldn't agree more on the lines of the Badlander. It looks bad-***. I don't think that eBay saddle will fit a pre-2000 though, since it's off a 2001 Night Train... I could be wrong here, and correct me if I am, but it would have to be for a pre-2000 to fit. Fine looking seat though, and shares similar lines to the badlander, so that's a plus. Thanks for the advice though. Gives me a direction to look.
My *** would hurt after 12 hours sitting in a lazy-boy. I can run 12h days on my stock heritage seat, but no matter what you get, you're going to be numb. There are a few places around that put gel inserts into your seat... get the same look with more comfort.
What kizmit, was at a local custom leather shop yesterday n the guy that owns it "Mehi" sayz he wants to be the Dr Scholl of the motorcycle seat world, guys got some great ideas, here's his contact info. He may be able to help. http://www.saddleshoppe.com/
Twelve hours is a bit long, but I thing you must have made a few pit stops.
As far as seats go I've gone through four:
1 - Stock
2 - Saddlemen Wide Renegade (sent it back)
3 - Mustang Studded wide solo (sent it back)
4 - Ultimate Seat - Very Comfortable
I seem to be able to go forever on the seat on my Deluxe, I'm not sure if it's the seat or the fact that it just fit's my bum. Ergonomics are everything but I think everyone has a limit as to the number of hours you could sit in any seat. I have a habit of slouching in my seat and sometimes this can lead to a numb bum..
In my opinion, the thing that sucks about seats is unless you have a buddy with a seat that fits your bike or is willing to let you go for a long run on their bike you won't know what's comfy until you try it for yourself. I rolled the dice and went with a Mustang Vintage touring seat on my previous bike and I loved it. I currently use the stock seat and have a Brawler seat collecting dust as my *** is sore after an hour on it. Most dealers or bike shops in my area do not stock any of the usual name brand after market seats for you to at least check it out before purchase. A 12 hour run is a pretty long trip too. Check the classifieds, ebay, craigslist, etc. and try to find a used touring seat so you don't end up wasting too much money.
Hope I helped at least a little. Take care and good luck on getting a seat.

I've had experience with memory foam in a motorcycle seat and it wasn't good. Over a days ride it compresses to nothing, is hot & you end up sitting on the seat pan.
