Default Batteries

I have a sporty and a Fatty; thinking about changing batteries for good mainainance. Is there any real difference in batteries whether you purchase them from Wal Mart, the net, or the Dealer besides price? I know a heavier duty battery would be better but do they exist? Thanks in advance , Joe

Yes, if I understand the question right. But that's a question easier answered by a Goggle search. Like say 'about motorcycle batteries'. If there the same type of course, the price only varies by which seller wants to rip you off the most.

There is a difference in batteries and what they are specifically targeted in starting... it's called "cold cranking amps". The Fatboy will require more "CCA's" than the Sporty. That said... is there a difference in batteries with the same advertised "CCA's"? Not really except for post location and size... go to the local Battery Warehouse and make a friend with one of the guys at the front desk... he will tell you the closest to the truth as anyone. You can buy the exact same make and model battery as HD sells, sans the label, for 75% of the cost.

Find the company that makes the HD batteries. Quite a few cheap aftermarket batteries that are crap. Would only go with a HD battery or the company that makes them. Just don't know the name.

This same topic has come up over the years and a lot of owner's stay with the HD battery.
I thought that was interesting since most owner's tend to think that most of the replaceable items on the Harley like oil, tires, etc. need to come from the aftermarket, since HD supplied stuff isn't good enough.

I was going to get an Interstate a few years ago, but HD at that time dropped the cost of their battery so I picked one up at the dealership, for about the same cost as an Interstate.

Harley batteries are made by ACM? or AGM.

AGM (absorbed glass mat) is a battery type. HD batteries are made by Deka, here is the place to get them.
