Novelty Helmets

I am new to harleys and for some reason I thought I would look like a tool wearing my normal full face helmet. I went to a swap meet and bought one of those $25 flat balck peanut helmets. Looked really cool and was comfortable.
2 weeks ago I was waitin for my buddy to come over to take a rip. I had the peanut / novelty helmet on with my new neoprene face mask and was lookin real cool. As I waited for my buddy I realized how cold it was and I said screw it. I threw on my full face helmet because it keeps my head / face / ears so warm.
About a mile from the house I went down pretty hard at about 55mph. Slammed the back of my head on the road when I hit. If had that peanut helmet on I think I would have been ****ed!!! With the full face shoei, I just had a headache. As soon as I got home, I tossed the peanut helmet in the trash.
That is my story. Not sayin what anybody should do.

Yeah your right, funny how others choices affect many. "MY CHOICE" and I agree but my choice was to not have to wash brains off my fire boots post MVA also.
I've NEVER ordered someone to wear a helmet, thats not my way.
However 3 decades + of road scraping gives one a certain insight on what most likely happen in a crash. Having been FUBARED myself by a left turning cage while wearing my HD DOT 1/2 helmet gives me even greater insight to the pain and long rehab associated with a M/C accident. I was 101% in the right but received 100% of the injuries in that MVA as I've told some: un****ingbelieveablemotherfatheringheartstopping pain.
I just offer my experiences in the hope that it helps someone avoid the pain or worse.
