Got a problem!
no offense, but it sounds to me like a poor install on the apes. as was stated earlier, the start button should have been replaced right away, or at least when everything was already apart for the apes install. then, you say there is a pinched wire in the left side switch housing. are the splices soldered and shrink wrapped? i would definitely start with looking into the wiring involved with the apes. if you are not the one that did the install, if it were me i would tear them back apart and verify everything is proper. shortcuts can cause alot of problems and leave you stranded
now i wish i would have just done them myself. looks like i'll just have to pull em off and redo them myself. the splices are soldered and wrapped but the pinch is when it comes into the housing. think he mounted the housing over to far not allowing enough space for the wire. thanks guys!
Good luck man, i'm interested to see what the problem is. I stopped letting anyone touch my bike after a brother of mine's bike came back with a gouge in the jug fins. Now i do everyrhing myself and i KNOW it was done right
This happened to me 2 days ago...starter engaging while riding...You say you heard this happen before...Do you know what the problem was? Trying to figure out now what is causing this problem with not much luck.
I have this exact same problem right now...Can you tell me what you found and how you corrected it? I already checked the start switch, run/stop switch, ignition switch, and right controls wiring all the way to the starter relay and battery. Not having much luck finding something obvious...
Nostalgic, so far I found a wire from my left turn signal that is pinched. all of my grounds are good. one thing i never payed attention to when messing with controls is how the buttons are when you mount them. what i mean is if the button pushes in at all when you secure the housing over the buttons. If i get get some time today i'm gonna take care of that wire and see if that works. I'll let you know and if that doesnt work im taking it to local shop. If you can hold out for that ill let you know right away what the shop finds. let me know if you figure out anything on your end.
i really cant remember what the issue was. im thinking it was either a pinched wire in the switch housing shorting out or a stuk solinoid in the starter. hope this helps

Plus one million..dealer techs are THE worst. I fuxx things up too...I'm lazy as hell....I'm old and damn near blind. But....if I fuxx up....I know what I did....some other idiot fuxxs up ...and 99.99999% of the time he is not gonna tell you. In a cage....a fuxx up may leave you stranded....on a bike....a fuxx up can get you killed.
Plus one million..dealer techs are THE worst. I fuxx things up too...I'm lazy as hell....I'm old and damn near blind. But....if I fuxx up....I know what I did....some other idiot fuxxs up ...and 99.99999% of the time he is not gonna tell you. So I took the bike into local shop and after explaining it he suggested taking it elsewhere. That made me feel great!!! I end up taking it to harley since it was only $10 more per hour for labor. The problem was a bad switch which was causing the starter to engage. Starter is shot! Total damage=$600 for the switches, primary gasket, some oil, new HD starter and labor.
