Default Got a problem!

So i was out riding yesterday and I go to take off from a light. Bike starts to get the feeling like it is out of gas(but it wasnt) and then engine cuts off, lights and gauges stay on. I get off the road and jump off quick to take a look and see tiny bit of smoke coming from solenoid/starter area but cant see exactly where its coming from. bike doesnt turn over and after a few tries battery is drained. Sorry this is long but bare with me!! I tow bike home and try to crank it again and get alot of smoke under seat. pull the seat off and my load equalizer is hot and has a hole on the bottom. any ideas or suggestions on where to start??? Thanks in advance!

"bike doesnt turn over" Does it crank, but not start, or does it not crank?

If is does not crank you may have a short in the starter circuit.

Absolutely check all ground connections first.

Next - What is new, Did you change anything recently?

It tries to crank briefly then stops. Last year new front and rear turn signals were put on (led), taillight (led) and new bars that required extended wiring harness. went from stock bars to apes. One thing I did notice this morning when i took off the housing for the controls on the right side of my bars is that the start but seems to be pushed in. Last year i had an issue where i turned the switch to run and the bike started without hitting the start switch.

defective switches?..your load eq burning is a whole different problem

who did apes....are they rubbing on bars and all cut up wires shoritng out inside bars?....

i say you need switches first as you should have replaced that start switch LAST YEAR when it stuck.

I think he's got the correct location, new he needs and ohm meter and a wiring diagram. But you're probably right about the defective switch.

thanks a lot for the info. i checked my starter yesterday and no problem there. i pulled off the right switch housing and my start button was pressed about halfway while housing was on. doesn't look like the switch fits with that housing. is it possible that the load equalizer burning up had anything to do with the switch? Or does that only effect my lights? thanks again fellas!

could be that your starter was engaging while motor was runing, causeing things to overheat. i heard of this happening before, but usualy burns up the starter after a mile or two.

Got the new load equalizer and put it in. Also i found that my left turn signal wire going into switch housing is pinched. Tried putting battery back in today after putting new equalizer in and neg sparked when i touched it to battery. Pinched wire on turn signal can cause this right?
