After riding everything on the showroom floor, I traded the XL 1200 C for a 2011 Softail Heritage. (pics are in my album so you can see how it's outfitted).
Lord do I love it. Anything I need to do different or be aware of? After 3 Sportys it's a big change.
Leather care, whitewalls, etc are all new to me. I'm doing my break in same as any new bike, no high revs, no Interstate, no constant speeds.
Care on the black paint? You folks know the drill.
I can't advise on the whitewalls, but I know you'll need some good swirl remover for the black paint. Other then that, I could give you lots of ideas on mods, but I'm sure you'll come up with your own. But the most important thing you need to do: lose the reflectors! lol, I had to say it before someone else got the chance...
Just remember the seat and bags are real leather on that bike. Little extra care, especially with the bags. I have found harleys leather care salve is top notch, keep the bags well nourished.
Holly chit not another Heritage.. who in their right mind would buy one of those......
Buy the way we love ours.....
HD leather treatment for the bags.
Whitewalls, well not for me.
Black paint care, well for sure use Micro soft cloths for polish. wax of Ur choice.
Make sure U ping Ur spokes to check for tightness at 1k then every 10k or so, If U have dealer do the services there supposed to,,,,, but........ Well they missed that one.
Also HD has a nice brush for the spokes,, soft and tapered and looks like a 1ft X-mas tree.
Also if the wife/girlfriend rides on the rear the HD touring seat, sissybar pad and floorboards are super nice.
My wife loves them compared to the stock set up which she couldn't ride over an hr. now she can go 3-4 hrs easy.

The best thing for cleaning white walls is a 50/50 mixture of Simple Green and water and a terry cloth towel....then follow it up with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I clean mine every other ride.....its about a 10 minute process for me.....and I don't have a jack.
I made the same type trade a year ago. Huge difference, huh?
Ride her for a while and give yourself some time to see what you may want to upgrade. Aside from new Rush slip-ons and a few minor gadgets, mine is pretty much stock, and it will stay that way for now.
