I use the cone shaped stock crush type gaskets because they work. The Screaming Eagle gaskets would not seal on my pipes after 2 failed attempts I went and got the crush gaskets and no leaks. Now for some pipes like the D&D Fat Cats they recommend the SE type gaskets but others just won't seal without using some sort of gasket sealer or doubling up on the front gaskets.

If you're not worried about performance, then use the stock, crushable exhaust gaskets. Of course there's always a chance of them obstructing the exhaust port(s) when they do crush to conform to the head pipe flange.

If you've had engine/head work done, then go with a non crush type exhaust gasket like the Screamin' Eagle or Cometic. No obstructions between the ports and head pipe. Doesn't make sense to spend hundreds of dollars on porting and larger valves that flow better only to have some of the gasket material blocking the ports and robbing power.

Personally, I haven't had a problem with the SE gaskets. No problem getting them seated or with leaks.
