Considering 12.5" Chubby apes
I'll get a quote from my independent mechanic. What kind of price should I expect?
If wiring internal, need to install wiring extensions, probably a tank pull. (I do this, some dont have to.)
New throttle cables
New clutch cable which probably means exhaust comes off and transmission cover.
New brake line which means brake bleed.
Change over grips and controls.
If you have a garage, a manual, tools, and a weekend I would do it myself.
I used the Burly cable kit and it had everything in it including the banjo washers for the brake line. Worked well.
I dont know the shop rate, but might be 8 hours of just labor. I think I had asked Harley about a bar change a few years ago and they wanted like $1400 for everything? Not sure.
Again, not rocket science, but time is money.
Good luck!
1.. Handlebars
2.. 50'' brake line
3.. 40'' Throttle cable
4.. 40'' Idle cable
5.. Clutch cable (cant remeber what size I bought)
6.. Clutch cover gasket
7.. Wiring extensions for your switches
8.. Poly riser bushings
9.. Trans fluid
It's not a difficult job if you take your time, Indy or dealer's gonna charge you big money for this. Get a service manual, and ask the doc for some part prices and you might save some money. Good Luck. Oh yeah, I'm running 2'' risers,so your cable lengths could be different.

I bought my bars from the first one and they are beautiful.

The Santee bars are nice. They have 1" mounting for the handlebar clamp and 1" ends for the controls. The bars are pre-drilled and even have pull cables installed in them. I shipped them down here first so I could measure everything up before I ordered cables and lines. They feel really sturdy compared to 1" apes. Broke my heart to have to take them back off while I wait for the rest of the parts.
My lengths are a little long because I plan on possibly putting a 2" riser on since I couldn't get the Santee in 18". Next month will be chrome handlebar controls which will tack on another $300 give or take.
Now you know how much the dealer will be taking on in labor and margins on parts when you get a quote.
