honestly aside from lowering it or taking the visored trim rings ideas (which would look great), i think it looks great just like that.. my personal opinion is keep it open like that so more air flows onto the engine and keeps it cool, even though it's a motorcycle and surrounded by air, but if you take my meaning..

How about mounting an oil cooler somewhere up there?

I appreciate everyones input. You know what they say - The greatest enemy of good is better. Sometimes I think too much about stuff in the attempt to stupidify it. Sensible thing is to probably drop the front a couple and then leave it alone.

I would lower it and leave it alone, besides putting something in there would reduce the amount of air getting to the front of the engine for cooling.
It makes no sense to me frying the engine just to make things 'look' better.

Here's what a tool bag would look like in there. Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of it from the front. It would fill the gap, but as said, be sure that you're willing to compromise the amount of air getting to your motor. I'm planning to add a cooler soon.

It would take some fabrication and maybe chrome plating, but you could fab a panel that mounts between the frame uprights. Make it out of some type of heavy screen metal like the decking on a landscape trailer so the air would flow thru. Maybe one of the others that can do some photo shopping could try to mock it up for you to see how it looks.

I thought a grill might look good but when I photoshopped it in... ugh! I agree with others that said nothing looks best there.
