Default Tires on a Deuce

Hey guys,
I'm getting completely frustrated with the way my Deuce handles at high speed, in the curves. Done all the shocks and other tricks, even pulled the swing arm today to see if that was causing the problem - wallowing in the curves up around 80 MPH.
Anyway, my last ditch effort is tires. Don't like Dunlops at all, and have always run the ME880. I've also run those on my BMW, but recently switched to the Avon Storm II Ultra. The BMW rear and the rear of the Deuce are the same tire, but obviously not the front.
Avon is recommending I try running the Storm II Ultra (a radial) on the rear and the Venom (not a radial) on front. They say there would be no problems, and that it's a recommended application for the Deuce.
Anybody have any experience along those lines? Suggestions?
Thanks,
Frank

I've always heard don't mix bias and radial tires, so I don't know. I am running Avon Venoms on both my 05 Softail Standard and my 06 Heritage Classic hand have had no handling issues. Much better than the stock Dunflops.

The Xbones comes stock with a radial in back and a bias one in front. So wouldn't worry about that one. The don't mix bias and radial is more for cars than for bikes.

What size tire are you looking at for the front? I upgraded mine to a 90/90/21, added the screaming eagle fork brace, and swapped the front fork oil the heavy weight oil. I have no trouble at all. Unfortunately I did all three things at once so I can't tell you which one helped the most. I will say that with 32k on the bike now, it handles great.

Good luck

Jim, When you say it handles great, what did you mean? I have progressive springs up front with RICOR valves, and Works Performance shocks in the rear. Where I'm experiencing my problems is at 70-80 MPH, peg on the ground. That's when she starts to wallow around.
And I'm running the stock MH90-21.

Kiwi, thanks for that information. Did a lot of "research" (if you can call it that on the internet) and find that there are several recommendations for radial rear, bias front, but none for the opposite (bias rear and radial up front). I also have to assume that Avon wouldn't never go out on a limb and suggest it if they thought they'd be sticking their necks out.
May have to try next tire swap.

i did run an avon venom 90/90 on front with an avon storm rear (170). i've tried a few different combos and so far that was my favorite. right now i'm running metzlers front and rear, but they are pretty new so haven't really been able to put them to the test yet.

Sorry, but I gotta say it, "...wallowing in the curves at 80,","...problem is at 70-80 MPH, peg on the ground" I'm sure you guys are awesome riders and I suck, but slow down dudes, what's the rush?

It's not your tires, it's the front end. My 2004 was the same way. I was in Arlen Ness one day and they had a limited edition wide front end sitting on the sale table. Problem solved. I call it th feuce (fat deuce). There are photos on the forum if you search feuce or foose. Best handling so tail I've ever been on.
