Fat Boy/Rush Mufflers Sound Clip
I am running Samson, Rip Saws, which don't come with baffles. Mine sound excellent, but, are very loud.
If I could quiet mine down so they were midway between your volume and my current volume I would be more than satisfied..
I asked on the exhaust section of the forum for advice on quieting them down. Skip aka PocoCJ, put in a link about adding lollipops to the end of the pipes, which might lower the sound just a little. Unfortunately the way my pipes bend down at the end doesn't allow, for enough room, to drill the 1/4" holes for the lollipop installation.
Well, I have around 100 miles on the bike since I swapped in the Rush mufflers. I just pulled the plugs and...................
they look just about perfect! Light grey color, no ash, no erosion. Also, I'm having no driveability issuesl, no backfiring, etc. Things appear to be all good.
gabhart: Thanks! You can see and hear the 'Vette (including a couple of passes at the local drag strip) at my web site: http://xtrooper.net/
tmitchellof PG: You could try the 2.25" baffle versions. They're supposed to be noticeably louder than the 2.00" versions I have.
I'm curious about your transmission. My 07 has a definite "clank" sound when shifting gears either up of down. The HD service people I've talked to say it's normal (and I've talked to at least three different dealerships). I migrated from a metric cruiser whose transmissions shifts were utterlly unheard.

I have noticed the CLUNK! shifting noise... I feel it too. Its a normal Harley shift. This is really strange for me to get used to coming off a Honda CBR600RR which would click into the next gear.
Fatbernie, these things sound pretty familiar don't they?

Nice tone to them but of course inside a garage they're going to sound deeper from all the reverberation.
XTrooper3936 I'm referring to our Rineharts.. Your slip-ons remind me of my own pipes. I would definitely consider the fuel remap with a K&N filter upgrade... I bet it'll scream once you do, plus you'll know your running right on the money. I need to get a pro to tune my old carb that knows what they're doing.. Hard to find around here unless I wanted to let it sit at the dealer forever.
Trooper I really like those pipes. I just bought a Fat Boy last night and I'm already looking into mods. How much did they set you back?

The Rush mufflers for our bikes retail for $270. With my normal 10% discount from our local H-D dealership, I paid just under $260 for them including sales tax. Here's the link to the Rush Fat Boy mufflers in case you don't have it. http://www.epiflex.com/rush_fatboy_deuce.html
Cool slip-ons XTrooper3936

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
As for the quiet metric, noisy Harley tranny issue. Itâs not really that hard to figure out if you think about it for a minute.
Metrics for the most part have their trannyâs buried inside the engine crankcase. They will often share a common cavity space with the crank. The bottom end of the engine is one of the heaviest castings in the whole engine.
Metrics also make more use of quieter helical cut gears that are by and large also physically smaller in size.
So they have thicker casting walls, the gears themselves are smaller and have a helical cut to them, and they are virtually swimming in 3+ quarts of engine oil because of the wet sump design.
So what does it mean to us, nothing, Harleyâs clunk, and metricâs click, I can live with that.
Besides I kind of like the positive "its definatly in gear" clunk better than the "is it in gear, or not?" click.[sm=biker2.gif]
