oil questions
First, what would be an acceptable amount of oil to burn during a 7000 km trip, including a few hot days with a bit of stop and go traffic. Also, have any of you guys ever have a problem with a little drip of oil coming out of your tank? I've notice a little bit running down the tank. Thanks for your help, I'm hoping it's just the seal around the dipstick going bad...

If I was down a quart after a 4K mile trip I wouldn't be worried. I think Harley says a quart in 1500 miles is normal. We used to call that burning oil, but times have changed. My Sturgis trip is about 5K miles. Hard high speed riding and lots of hot traffic sitting. I'm normally down about a 1/2 quart when I get home.
A little weep from under the tank plug is also typical. Wipe it and ignore it is the way I handle it.

ok, that's sounds about right. I had to add about 3/4 of a quart. Lots of highway with lots of hills and running the bike pretty hard, fully loaded, 2-up. Think I'll try to get a new dipstick out of the stealer anyways since my warranty is up soon.
