I put the run turn brake module on my Crossbones, I wanted to keep the smoked lenses, so I had to find some red 1156 bulbs, which was not easy. I found some at phatperformance parts. I ordered them up. On my trip to Colorado, one of my Brothers said they looked white. I had brought an extra set. I threw them in and two days later they have also faded. Anyone know of a good red bulb? I ordered a set from Kuryakyn, but am afraid I am going to be disappointed. A red 1156 is not something I have been able to find in any auto parts store...
I had similar issues trying to find chrome amber bulbs that weren't too dim. After buying about 6 pair from $9 - $29, I finally just bought the Custom Dynamics LED kit. Expensive but problem solved and no more searching. I just got tired of looking and trying bulbs.
I was just looking at those today; it's something I definitely want to add to mine. Did you go with aftermarket or the HD part? And if you went with the HD module, what was the part number for it? I've been seeing 69462-06A, 69462-06B, 69461-06A, etc. and I'm having a hard time telling which is the correct one for the Xbones! And after hearing your problems with the red bulb/smoke lenses, I''m beginning to wonder if LED is the way I should go after all....
Check out J & P Cycles (or other aftermarket) for Iridium coated bulb. Used them to solve the same problem on my '89 tail/brake light. They carry 1156 or 1157. Bright red stays that way. Not cheap at $21 apiece.
Try "clearalternatives.com". They have tons of stuff...good stuff. They list your bulbs in a two pack for $9.95. Made of red glass...not painted or coated. They also have a toll free number listed so a quick call can get you a bunch of answers. I have used their stuff but it has been awhile. The call is cheap...
I was using red 1156's for a while too with the Run/Turn/Brake and smoked lenses, but after a couple of weeks, the bulbs would fade and the turn signals looked pink rather than red. Like a couple of previous posters, I changed to the Custom Dynamics Red LED's and have been very happy. I have amber LED's in front and they're very bright.
