Angry No Panacea tail lights for 2011 Softails!

One of my customizations right off the bat was to ditch the big ugly tail light on my 2011 Fat Boy Lo and go with a low profile LED tail light with a smoked lens. The dealer suggested the Kuryakyn Panacea tail light, which I liked, so I went with it.

Along the way, I noticed that the little security light never went out on my speedo and asked the dealer about it. They thought it was some other issue at first, then found that it was due to the Panacea not pulling enough electricity, which causes the security light to go on (for models equipped with the factory security system).

So I double check the Kuryakyn website, and it doesn't say anything about not working with 2011's, but if you look for it, you can find an add-on called an Alarm Compatible Load Equalizer (see it here: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/172...Load-Equalizer )

It is supposed to fix this item. At the very worst, the website says that there are no problems if you decide that the light being on doesn't bother you.

However, when I talked to the tech guy at Kuryakyn to verify, he said that the Panacea system is not compatible at all with 2011 Softails and that the load equalizer only works with 2010 models (doesn't say that on the website, though).

I asked him if I can use the Panacea light and just live with the security light being on, and he said "The Panacea system is not compatible with the 2011 models, it will cause codes to be set, and we do not know if there could be any other problems caused on the bike if using the Panacea system."

So lots of confusion from these guys and when I asked them if they were going to make a product compatible with the new bikes, he said they probably wouldn't because it would only apply to the 2011 Softails.

Ridiculous. I wish someone else made bright LED tail lights with built in turn signals.

+1 on D2moto. Watch for them when they are on sale and save 30-40%

Thanks Gents, that D2moto light looks great!
I'll have to call them first and see if they have the security light issue, though. It doesn't look good, because they don't list 2011 FLST models.

Has anyone compared it's brightness to the Panacea or Bright *** Lights?

So Kuryakyn says don't use their Panacea tail light on my 2011 Fat boy because it sets codes and they don't know what else might happen. The tech at my dealership says that there is no reason not to use the panacea light if I am ok with having the security light on, it causes no other problems.

Sounds like Kuryakn is just covering their butts. Anyone who really knows the electronics stuff know who I should listen to on this?

Me personally would listen to your Hd dealer. I called my HD dealer and they did not recommend using the Kuryakin lights. They said it's been their experience that Kuryakin lights ultimately cause problems and since the 2011 softails are wired differently they didn't recommend it. So I'm not using them on my 2011 X bones.

Default Panacea

Been using the Pancea since late 2010. Works fine on my 2011 fatboy lo with only the securty light on after the brakes are applied. I was wondering if I could add a ceramic high wattage resistor just before the panacea brain if that could correct the error. If not I will live with the light, I like the thought of safety at stop lights because my old truck was rear ended twice in a turn lane at stop lights.

Default LED taillight

Have a Brightass led taillight on 05 RKC & buddies hate riding behind me because my taillight blinds them but it works great for getting cages off my *** & was worth every penny. Brightest led taillight I've seen, has 26 flash options & is plug & play. Get the security screws so you don't lose it.
