Got the quite baffles out. I used a glo-rod that has a small hook attachment on the end of it. Used to use them when I worked for Dish Network to do wallphishing (pulling cables down the inside of walls in homes). I was able to hook the inside part of the welded nut and pull. The top one came out with just a little bit of a fight. The bottom one, well, she did not want to come out. So I pulled and pulled and pulled until I was able to get enough of the baffle edge out and gripped it with a set of needlenose pliers and worked it on out. Just out of curiosity, I fired up my ride without the baffles and it was LOUD!!!. If I wanted to leave it that way, I would have to rejet my carb, so I put the stock baffles in and it's still loud, but not as loud. Louder than when it had the quite baffles in that's for sure.
By the way, I shouldn't have to rejet my carb anyway, right?
When riding through these small towns in New Jersey, on the narrow main roads, I set the car alarms off all the time. I set off one in a more rural area recently on a Camaro - the alarm went off before I got to the car, so between the noise and lights it scared the crap outta me, I thought there was someone in there about to pull out in front of me...
I just can't bring myself to install the quite baffels. I have the V&H BSS also and have gotten used to the great sound. I too have to be carefull in my neighborhood to not fire up too early and sit and idle for long periods. I start up and get out quickly.
We are retired and have a lot of older folks living around us and they are grouchy sometimes, so we try not to make them too crazy.
My SE II's aren't what I consider to be very loud and I set a lot of alarms off that are parked along the curb in the neighborhood. I think it is GREAT! I don't do it on purpose it just happens. The alarm is on their car for the same reason we put louder pipes on. (We want to hear it) I am sure they don't mind much because they know their system is working. Keep setting them off!
