My Rush slip ons arrived today and I am trying to install them. I have everything loose but the 4 muffler fastener bolts. I don't think I have a wrench that fits them. I tried a 3/8 and a 5/16" wrenches but they don't quite fit. Manual doesn't say what size they are just to remove them and the torque. What size/type wrench will I need for these. Looks like a trip to Sears, I really need a better set of wrenches.
1/2" for the flange bolts. Use a socket on an extension with a ratchet. It makes things much easier.

I got the clamp bolts loose. The ones I am talking about are on the muffler support bracket and there are 6 of them not 4 like I posted. They hold the muffler to the bracket, and are about 3/8" head size.
Edit... Just took another look at it. There is a muffler support bracket with 2 1/2" nuts on the lower part and the passenger peg bolt on the top. Are they the ones you're talking about?

Reason: proper name for bracket

If 3/8 is too big and 5/16 is too small then you're at 11/32. Not really a common size, but most wrench and socket kits come with it. Unless of course it's an 8mm or 9mm but I doubt it. Only metric crap on most Harleys is battery or brake related.
the 4 bolts are a pain in the *** to get off. i had harley put my mufflers on my 2010 fatboy lo. it cost 35.oo dollars well worth it .
At this point paying $35.00 seems worth it. I have gone this far though so I would really like to see it through. The job seems so simple until you get to these bolts.
Just installed mufflers on my '10 FBL and the 6 bolts take a 3/8 wrench. They were a PITA but once I got them started was able to tighten them with a good rachet wrench. It can be done just take a while.
Almost finished now. The bolt heads were 3/8" as you said and they are a PITA. Once I got the bottom muffler off I removed the muffler support bracket and was quickly able to get to the remaining bolts on the top muffler. I put it back the same way. Going back out now to torque everything.
