I have a 2001 Fatboy with Hooker longshots and the Softail detachable saddlebags and want to put passenger footboards on it. I haven't seen anyone around lately with the boards installed to see how they are installed. Can someone please post some good pics of the footboards so I can see how they fit. If I could just see how they attach to the frame I can figure out if they will work with my set up.
No help here. I can tell you what I've found out about the 07 Fatboys. I ran into a total lack of options (I'm not spending $500 for passenger floorboards). The 07 uses a single bolt thru pipe bracket for its' peg mounts. I could buy a cheap but acceptable set of boards (black, not chrome), remove the rubber insert, remove the passenger footpegs from the bike, cut the rubber off the pegs, weld the boards to the pegs in a position so they won't contact the pipes when folded, repaint, replace the rubber inserts, & put back on bike. If they look okay, I'll have them chromed. Not sure how good they will look on the bike yet so I haven't proceeded.
I added the pivot bolt covers and "fat"swing arm covers before I found out that you can not add Harley passenger floor boards with these covers installed. I like the look so I will just have to suffer with the wife melting her boots all over my exhust everytime we ride together. I did find an option from Kuryakyn that does not need to connect to pivot bolt covers but have not really researched it further. The Harley ones have a two point connection so the pivot bolt cover gets in the way.
I believe your fix is to buy the Heritage passenger footboard brackets for $137 then buy the normal Harley footboards for the $150 price. Cost around $300. This was what it cost on my Deluxe.
This works if you have the aftermarket pipes that are mounted to the lower frame rail and not in the configuration of the stock pipes where the passenger stock footpeg comes between the pipes.
You did not show a picture of your new pipes for me to tell.
Just looked at your picture in your sig and see your pipes are mounted to the lower frame and the pipes run together. So your new brackets (heritage) will mount to the swingarm joint frame, just like the pegs that are on their now. They will come over the pipe just like the setup on my picture below.
Here is a picture of the heritage passenger brackets. Notice you have different part numbers for the left hand and right hand brackets. The look alike but mount at different angles, so you need both.
Thanks for all the help guys. I don't think those are gonna work with my saddle bags. Looks like the hunt is on for a new set of bags, 'cause the wife really doesn't like the pegs. I'll check with the guys at the harley shop just to make sure.
If you have footpegs, I replaced the pegs on my 03 Deuce with the peg mount passenger footboards from Kuryakyn, part number 7907, $199.95. These are the only ones I was able to find that fit a footpeg mount. My wife was very happy with them and said they were cooler than resting her heel on the pipes.
