This is my setup, I haven't used it except for a test run.

I have a bluetooth setup in my helmet. Still have to figure out how it works! LOL

I bought one of these simple mounts off ebay Link. Works great with the Garmin from my car. You re-use the back plate part of the mount and just pop it on here. It mounts nicely on the handlebar and is really not that noticeable when I don't have the GPS mounted on it.

I just went with the Garmin Zumo. Comes with everything you need to mount to the bike (RAM mount kit and hardwire connector). It's waterproof and has a glove friendly touch screen setup. It's the same one Harley sells, but for half the price if you can live with gray instead of black, and no bar-n-shield on the buttons.

I took mine cross country 2 years ago and it worked great. I downloaded the POI's for all the HD shops in North America and had no problems finding everything I needed along the way. It saw all the weather from 115 in the desert to 40 in the mountains, sunshine, rain, bugs, and even some hail. It still works flawlessly. You can also get the car mount so you can switch between vehicles.

Do you still have your windshield? If so, this windshield mount method I use is the most appealing to me, and the least obtrusive when the gps is not attached - mount

I have a Nuvi 550 which is supposedly waterproof and I've had no vibration issues. You can catch them on sale around $200.

I used a RAM mount to the handle bar. Took it right near the center. My windshield blocks light rain, bugs and dirt.

As for power, I bought the Powerlet cord. It comes with the extra adapter that works with all Garmin units. I ran the cord from the battery, under the tank and up through the fork. The adapter is the perfect length to disconnect right at the fork if I want to remove it (no wire shown).

The Ram Mount are the best mounting. Upgrade to one of the Zumo units with Satellite Radio. I have the older Street Pilot 2730 with XM and love it. Do not have speakers yet, I just wear ear plugs. Ran power under my instrument console to the battery with an extension cable for the headset. I keep the XM antenna in my windshield bag.

As for the guy saying they won't work on heritages must not know how to work his GPS.

Default Heritage GPS

For the last 14 years I have been riding from MD to West, S West, N West, usually 5500-6000 miles. My GPS was a stack of index cards jury rigged to my Windshield Bag in a plastic card holder. Each motelsl explicit directions were on the cards so that when you dropped off the Inter State and had maybe a block to get over into the left lane in heavy traffic I was prepared. On a bike I don't want to be gaping around for my motel. This year I bought a Garmin Nuvi 4350 LMT, I have it mounted on left side of handlebar with a Ram Chrome Motorcycle Mount. I bought it from www.mountguys.com, it's pricey but the mount has two rubber ball joints which are adjustable. The smallest print on the GPS maps can be read, VIBRATION IS NOT A PROBLEM. The only negative is glare from the sun, I bought a Sun Shade that I am trying to make work, so far little success. I used the Garmin GTM 35 traffic receiver cable that came with the unit, I have it hard wired back to my Trickle Charger Connector. This is not a switchable connection so GPS must either be turned off or removed when leaving bike. I use the GPS in both PU's and car. Heading for Glacier NP in August so I hope GPS works out for me.

Running a TomTom XL340 with the Ram mount and the same Power connector with a windshield. The cord just plugs into where my Battery Tender plugs into, make easy on easy off. If I am in heavy rain I just remove it.
