Thumbs up Am I crazy?

Last Friday I had the 5,000 mile service performed on my 2010 Xbones. From reading posts on this forum, I decided it was worth changing the rear tire at the same time. There was still lots of tread left on it, but next month I'll be doing a 5,000 mile trip (Sturgis) and don't want to have maintenance issues while traveling. Several of my friends have berated me for wasting money or at least keeping the old tire. I can't see any point in paying the labor to reinstall a tire with 5,000 mile of wear.

What do you guys think? Should I have waited until the tire was worn out and have it changed while in Sturgis?

as long as you consider your life worth the cost of that tire i would say you made a good move. plus getting it changed there should be MUCH cheaper than having it done in sturgis

Better change you seat too. That foam breaks down after time.

I don't think the 1925 seat has much foam. Think I should be OK.

If your riding that 5000mi trip, thats 10,000 miles on the tire before you get back. It was a safe move.

Definitely a good move.. however, do yourself a favor (and obviously you know this so i'm just beating a dead horse... ).. get yourself like 250 miles of break-in on the tire, to get that factory slick off the stuff..

I am lucky if I get much more than 6000 miles on my tires (I can push 7500 miles maybe).

I would much rather change out tires that I would guess had 75% or more wear, than to chance getting a flat on the road, that could cause me to be injured and/or my bike to get damaged.

IMHO it was a smart move for a long trip. heck you might need new tires when you get back. Many people look at the outside tread and think the tires are fine and the middle tread is bald.
