Default K&N Cold Air Intake

I have a 2010 Fatboy that I just purchased a K&N Air Intake for. Any idea if I can run it with no fuel pack or any other adjustments?

Once you add more air, you really should add more fuel. It'll work without it, but you're going to run even leaner than it came from the factory and it'll feel hotter to your legs. Think about it...you're adding more air into the mixture without evening out the amount of fuel that is in the mixture.

I would wait until you get a tuner to put it on. Your bike is running lean from the factory and that will make it leaner.

My 2010 FatBoy runs much better since I put on the Big Billet sucker air cleaner, new pipes, and NO tuner. Yes, i have heard it all before, and I agree with some of the commentary. Bike runs very crisply, if anything runs cooler, and plugs are consistently a light gray.

I'd be really careful about reading plugs with today's fuel. No-lead and other additives make it so there is almost no difference in color between in tune and lean conditions. The only way to be sure is to use an AFR meter of some kind.

Smile Aftermarket Air Cleaners...

While I'm not a "Certifed" H-D mechanic, it does seem to me that EFI systems must have a certain amount of variance in the fuel metering programs to allow for different operating conditions, (ie. temp, humidity, altitude etc.). I have changed the exhaust and air filtration systems on my bike with no noticable adverse effects. On rare occasions I'll get a back fire on decell, but even that is minimal. My operating conditions so far are: hot, (95-100 degress), low altitude, (approx 300 ft MSL), low humidity, (averages 30-60%).

I will be doing the tune thing primarily to maximize my aftermarket parts investment and achieve the best effeciency from the engine.

As a side note, I will wait until 1000 miles are on the clock prior to any tuning, looking for good lagg in of bearings and friction surfaces.
That's my plan anyway,

Ride Safe,
TIILM

2010 bike will compensate for the added air with more fuel. It will not "tune" the bike but it will compensate to keep the stoic mixture that the factory is required to maintain. No harm on any bike with O2 sensors to change up the AC without a tuner. that is unless you want it to run "right".

Correct a tuner will make it just run better and richer plus a little cooler. It will run right without a tuner just like it did when stock but with a little more power, to maximize it a tuner will blend it all together

I only plan on running it like this for a week or so. I ordered the V&H Big Shot Staggered pipes and the V&H fuel pak. They won't be delivered until next week some time, but I figured for the short time I run with just the air intake it would hurt too much. Would you all agree?
