Had some crazy close calls in 25 years of street riding, like sliding sideways through a crowded intersection to avoid a wreck. I always rode them out and I attribute that to growing up on dirt bikes. Riding fast in the dirt you learn to control a bike that is basically out of control. Also, I've been lucky on the street. Not as lucky in the dirt. Once rode an XR500 off a cliff and it got stuck in a tree. A piece of the tree got stuck in me.

Had a close call on one of those myself the other day. Luckily rear end kicked out only about a foot or so, another one and I would have been down.

I've been riding for 6 years on road legal bikes and I've never had an accident or dropped any of my 3 bikes (knock on wood). However, I have had several close calls but they were all due to other drivers not paying attention. I've had cars pull out infront of me. I've had a semitruck merge into me where I was riding on the shoulder of the interstate between him and a concrete barrier with just enough room to fit (that was a fun one I tell ya). I've had the bike completely sideways trying to avoid a wreck bc of some idiot. I think the difference is how different people's brains operate in stress. Some panic and make mistakes but with me time seems to slow and I'm able to think about what to do and make proper decisions even though in reality its a fraction of a second. I only assume that's bc of my military exp and training to do just that, but that's only a theory.
