Default PC-V Installation issue

Hi all: I am attempting to install a PC-V on my 2008 Fatboy without much luck. I am afraid I may have a lovely $300 paper weight. I installed a PC-III on my last bike, a Suzuki DL-1000 and the installation could not have been easier. Not so with the Fatboy.

My big issue revolves around the kludge installation Power Commander wants you to make. Move the ECM up and stick in place with Velco. Besides the interference with the seat, I do not want the ECM just taped in place. Tech support at Fuel Moto is top notch, but their suggestions for alternate installation locations will not work.

For those who have successfully installed a PC-V without modifications (I don't expect many replies), how did you do it and can you post pictures? If I can't install it properly, and Fuel Moto will not take it back, then I am just out of luck, and $300. Expensive lesson.

Stupid question did they say it can be installed on the bike you ordered for . Ask them where do they install at and if they can send you some pictures . From what I've read Fuel Moto is a top notch company . Is the only problem your having is the mounting issue or do you also have a running problem ??

You are right about Fuel Moto. They are top notch. The issue is one of installation. I did confirm that I had a 2008 Fatboy. There is just NO ROOM under the seat for the second large pigtail and plugs without either moving the ECM and Velco'ing it in place (not going to happen, interference with the seat too) or somehow finding another place for it. The short stock harness does not give a lot of options for where it can go.

IMHO, this is not a user friendly installation. Maybe there is an easy trick that I am not seeing??? This my first HD but not my first PC.

The only way I know of is exactly the Way the instructions said. I have had one installed on my 2010 Fatboy Lo for over a year with no problems. WHy are you against moving the ECM as the instructions advised ? It all fits' you just have to move the pigtail around so it sits flat against the battery and move it around to alleviate any seat interference.

That is the correct way. Remove the stock ECM Mounting Plate. Place velcro on the fender under the seat. The reason you use the velcro is because you have to move the ECM a little further up the fender than where the mounting plate kept it. I will take a picture when I get off work but won't be able to post it until tomorrow but I will do it. Check back tomorrow after 2 pm. Next you will unplug the ECM and mate the plug of the PC V between them. Then the PC V fits in the rectangle cutout on top of the battery. It's actually pretty easy. No reason to stress and it's not a $300 paper weight. I will get you the pic so you will know exactly what to do. Or you can PM me your phone number and I will text it to you when I get home. I don't have a computer at home. I get off in 30 minutes.

Plugging into the electrical system is one thing, moving stuff around and Velco'ing it in place is another. My past bike was very straight forward. I guess that is my problem.

The only option I can see is to pull off the rear fender and route the stock harness between the frame cross member (the one the relay/fuse box is attached to) and the fender. I just dont know if the pigtail is long enough or if it will pinch.

if it makes you feel any better, the stuff they give you to attach the ECM to the fender is very strong and durable stuff
