2006 FXSTSI. I don't like the stock bars. I'm more miniapes vice drags. I prefer a more laid back, relaxed ride position ala FXSTC. Based on the bars on there now I'd like to come up 2-3" and back 2-3".
I'm going to the dealer tomorrow for my weekly "stare at the parts I want but can't afford right now" torture session. While I'm there I'll sit on a FXSTC to see if that's the right answer. In the mean time, I'm open to suggestions and do's/don'ts from the peanut gallery.
I have an 06 FXSTS... I am installing mini apes here... I had to wait for some extra parts, I am dropping the front signals altogether for the HD mirrors/signals. I will put some pics on when the job is done. Good luck with your decision.
Thanks. I put Dyna Mini's on both my Sporty's and really like them. Considering that for the FX. Just not sure if they'll come back far enough on the big bike.

Thats funny! LOL
I've got a 06 standard I put mini-apes on and it turned out sweet, I love em. HD sells some nice chubby mini-apes that I was able to use all my stock cables with and ran the wiring internally. The only parts I had to buy were the bars $200, risers $200 and a 6 in. wiring extension harness $20. Look in the softail section of the parts catalog and it will show the bars and the part numbers for the risers and wiring extension.
BTW, I spent a lot of time checking with a bunch of aftermarket and custom shops, to my surprise I found that HD was cheaper than all of them. Good Luck, I'm sure you will like them, they give a much different feel to your bike also.
If you have a digital camera I would bring it along with a tape measure, a pencil, and a pad. That way you can take closeup pictures of the tape next to different riser/bar combinations, and use the pad to make notes on the various measurements.
You might find that a stock riser/miniape setup on a Custom is too high, doesn't come back as far as you think. Or actually won't fit because of interference with the springs on your top tree, or the tank.
Good Luck looking, I think a set of miniapes on a springer is a near perfect combination.
Makes for a great "old school" chopper look.[sm=biker2.gif]
