Default Oil usage before first oil change.

I just got done doing my 1000 mile service and my bike used about 3/4 of a quart on breakin. It went though various riding conditions and temperatures as well as load conditions. I'm curious to see how much oil usage on the average is normal for these '07s.

That's a little odd, mine didn't use any during the first 1000 miles. Its only up to about 1300 now and getting hard to find decent riding conditions so I don't know if that will continue, but its still full after the last 300 miles.

I didn't do my own Oil change but I checked it regularly, and I did not have a noticeable oil loss...? You should have a warranty, I would check with the dealer... Good luck

Used nothing at the 1000 oil change. Have 2700 on it now and still nothing and I don't baby mine either. Did you vary your speed (rpm's) during your first 500 miles, its very important to seat the rings properly.

Was the missing 3/4 qt based on what you drained out?

mine has never used any in 3300 miles (was changed at 1000) didn't use any then or sense. I check mine every 100 or 150 miles.

3/4 of a quart sounds like a problem. Could be bad valve guides or your rings are not seating. I would bring it in and lean on the dealer to find the problem.

Well it's good to see Harleys quality control is where it should be. To me 3/4 of a quart isn't excessive. I have a sneaking suspecion it wasn't checked to close when it was PDIed. The next 1000 miles will tell the true tale. I've seen more then one new bike not come in with a full tank, that's the reason Harley pays the dealership to check that stuff.

Well, if you think 3/4 quart in a 1000 miles on a new ride is OK, then ride on. They should use none. Where do you think it is going? No answer is acceptable in a new ride. Zero useage is what it should be.
