Take pics of it, a lot and post them on photobucket (its free) then post the link to the pics here so we can take a looksy please. Measure from the bottom of the frame below the swing arm pivot bolt and tell us that measurement so we can figure out whats up.
Good idea, also see if you can take a pic or two with it standing straight up with him on, and off it. Post those along with the measurements. My guess is that somethings not quite right with at least one of the spring shocks.
I know this is going to sound dumb, but look underneath and make sure that they are bolted in properly.
The Deluxe is the lowest of the softtails when it comes to ground clearence, with 4.8 inches off the ground. My wife and I ride double most of the time and I weigh 205 and she weighs 125 so thats a good load to haul. I jacked the shocks up a bit and it made a world of difference.
The shocks may have come from the factory without any preload adjustment and simply need to be cranked out a bit. I agree with the advice to see your dealer for a shock check.
You will drag any softtail footboard if you over correct in the corners. Watch your friends track into and out of the corners and make sure he making a smooth curve through the corners and not doing a 90 degree turn and doing the overcorrection.
I just cant see a beginning rider leaning the bike over enough to drag the floorboards without incident. Im leaning to somethings not correct on the bike is most likely an easy fix. If you take it back to the dealer and they go um oh OOPS, its fixed now. Tell em good now replace my floorboards because they are damaged due to your (the dealers) error.
No the kickstand is not hanging down, it is tight against the rubber bumper. This thing comes within 1/2" of the ground on a simple parking lot left turn.
