My friend just picked up his new softail classic yesterday. We went on a ride and he was complaining he kept hitting his left floor board on almost every corner! Is this normal? Can you do something to improve ground clearance? This seems dangerous. He is a new rider and this is does not promote confidence. I was trying to go extra slow in turns too.
I don't scrape that often, the softail does sit a little low, I don't think real low. The boards are hinged, so I doubt it would cause any problems. How aggressive does he ride??? I can lean mine pretty far before it will scrape.
Thanks for the responce, but I still don't know whats up with this bike.
Brand new '07
He rides VERY conservatively
He is 5'4" 175lbs
This thing looks, after looking at your pics, to be possibly lowered. Why would the dealer do this, can it be raised easily?
You can see the swing arm pivot about 3" off the ground!
Something isn't right...My Deluxe is lowered (front and rear) and rarely scrape while riding..If I do take an aggressive turn I will scrape a little, but I know when it is coming.....But definately not too often....
I raised mine 2.5 turns on both shocks and I still scapes at times. The Heritage sits as low as they come from the MOCO. I'm a light 240 without the old lady on board. I like the scape a little, it reminds me to slow down.
Take pics of it, a lot and post them on photobucket (its free) then post the link to the pics here so we can take a looksy please. Measure from the bottom of the frame below the swing arm pivot bolt and tell us that measurement so we can figure out whats up. I can scrape my floorboards driving slow in a parking lot but its not easy and my bike comes lowered!
