Default 2011 Fat Boy Lo

Hi all.

I'm near the Phoenix area of Arizona, and there's three dealerships in particular nearby me that have a Lo that I'm interested in.

And here's the thing:

At these three different dealerships, it's basically the same bike:
Previously owned, 2011 Fat Boy Lo, stock parts.

Two of them have about 9,000 miles, and the third one has 10,000.

The two that have 9,000 miles....one dealer wants $16,299 (which happens to be MSRP on a NEW 2011 Lo), and the other dealer wants $15,888.

The third dealer with the one that has 10,000 miles on it, they're asking $15,299.

The one that's going for $15,888 is the one that's caught my eye with it's color of that pearl/ gray (with black accents).

But anyway, there's something else I'd like to check out while I'm here and get your "take" on:

I'm fairly new to the Harley "world", and I found out that the Fat Boy cycle itself has been around for a quite a while, but, this precise model of the Fat Boy Lo has only been around since....2010....correct? So that means it's going into its third year of production, right?

Do you think there should be any reason for concern that three 2011 Fat Boy Lo's within a generally close proximity - geographically speaking - are turning up as previously owned for sale?

Heck, the year is still 2011 at this point, and these bikes ARE model year 2011.

Has there been any problems or concerns since the Lo model was introduced a couple of years ago?

Who knows, this could be totally innocent with no connection at all and I may be reading too much into it. But a buddy of mine who is an experienced Harley rider (as opposed to me who's new) says it raised an eyebrow for him like there might be something up with this.

Is the 2011 year Fat Boy Lo a solid bike? Reliable?

I'm taking a guess here that the previous owners of these bikes got them when they were brand new at the end of the year 2010 when the 2011's were just coming out.

And I know, I know....people sell bikes for all kinds of reasons......sometimes it's just because they can't keep up the payments on it, etc.

Let me know what you think, please. I wouldn't want to make a poor-choice purchase on my first Harley

Theres no issue with the LO's. Trading bikes, financial problems, down economy etc... typical of lots of models really.

I have not seen 1 used LO at either of the dealers near me ever. Oh and mine is a 2010, never had an issue.

Also, since the price is so close to a new 2011, why not just buy new? Good luck either way.

I wouldn't pay anywhere CLOSE to new MSRP for a used bike.

Those prices are way too high for that many miles. Don't let the dealer bs you by saying you are gonna save on prep and freight. While technically that is true, the dealers by me are dropping their pants on the new left over 2011s. Shop around some more.

I love my '11 Lo, and HD makes a solid product that is build to last. The greatest strength of HD bikes from a reliability standpoint (and something that Harley Haters point out all the time) is that most of the components on an established bike line (Softail, Dyna, Sportster, FL Touring) have been around for many years. Each year there are minor tweaks and parts swapped from model to model, but this makes up a small percentage of the components of the bike. The "innovations" on the 11 FLSTF seem to be the new electrical wiring (LAN) and the tach functions that have been added to the stock odometer display, and I haven't heard a single complaint about either change.

Since the previous owners of the three bikes put pretty good miles on their bikes in a year, I'll bet they either ran into financial trouble or more likely they got a great trade-in deal to move up to a more expensive touring model.

Do any of these bikes have the Security/Anti-Lock brake options? That would add alittle more to the value, I've got 7000 miles on my Lo and loving it!

I believe the new 2012 is about that price too. But if you get the 2012 model, you can opt for the new ABS and get the 103 engine! If you can handle the difference in price, I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the ABS and 103! The ABS is about a $1200 option and comes with the security feature.

But if not, then I'd go in and offer the dealer maybe $13-14,000 for for the used 2011 and see what he comes up to. The bike is solid so there's no problems with what year you get. But don't pay MSRP for a used bike. Good Luck!

Buy a 2012 and get the 103 motor. My 2010 is awesome. I've had no problems at all.
