hello guys and gals, i have a 2002 heritage with seII slipons with big city thunder monster baffles and the k&n filter kit. my question is what would be the best cams for what mods. i already have? thanks
gary
Just my opinion, I installed se-255 cams in my 2010 limited. I love these cams.
Along with the PCV with autotune, i couldnt be happier. Pulls hard off the line to about 5000 rpm, which i rarely rev over 4500. Sounds somewhat lopey at an idle plus my pipes did get a bit louder. VH Power duals w twin slash 4" rounds.
Alot of cams out there, so just read, read read and go with your gut!!
IMO stay away from 255's. Too much cranking pressure, hard on starters, nothing above 4000-4500, & pings too much. (That was in a 103 w/ flat top pistons.) I have SE203's in wifes carb'd 04 Fatboy w/ V&H Long Shots & Thunder Monsters & love em. Best Idle of most anything else, pulls strong from just off idle to about 3000 then kicks in to about 6000. Also have the SE ignition module which increases rev limit to 6200. Be prepared to re-jet it.
With stock heads, your choices will be Andrews 21, 26, or 37's, Woods W/TW6, Headquarters 0034, Crane 300, SE 203 or 204's. I'm sure I've left out one or two. Basically, any cam with .510" lift or below. Also, the earlier the intake close is ABDC (i.e. 30*, 32*, 35*), the earlier you start developing torque and be into the cam.

I run 203's as well and they give a nice ropey idle and more grunt. Had I to do it again I think I would go with the 204's instead, but the 203's have and continue to serve me very well. Are you doing the hydraulic tensioner upgrade at the smae time? I highly recommend doing it so there is not more possibility for cam chain tensioner issues.
I'm thinking that a cam upgrade, SE oil pump and hydraulic tensioner is a good winter upgrade. What should I expect for a cost from a dealer for a 204 cam with oil pump and cam chain tensioner? Opinions from everyone are welcome.
And is it unreasonable to ask the dealer to set the idle speed to 850rpm?
