The 26's will work great in Ur 88, the 21's work well in both 88's and 96's but with Ur 88 running a few hundred rpm's higher I'd go with the 26's.. I have them (26h's)and love them, there really easy on the valve train and will make a big diff in perf as most any bolt in cam.

The SE204's has the best lope I've heard in bolt in cam only installs. but without the four Degree Advance they don't start making good TQ till 3K or so then come on like a 4 barrel kicking in. The advance will move everything to the left about 300rpm's. They work great on light bike a lighter bike and lite rider straight up.

I ride 2 up most of the with the wife, and we mostly putt around, the 26's are perfect for my needs. Plenty of low end and they'll hang good till 5k, which I seldom wind her to.

Cams IMO is a must of the 96'' motors to make 6th gear usable, I can now use 6th at 60 and pass easy without downshifting.
She has more power now in 6th at 60 than I used to have at 55 in 5th gear for passing.

Also with cams Ur oil temp should drop another 15-20* and U should get 2-5 more MPG if U get a good tune.

Should also think about upgrading to the new HDY tensioners or go with gear cams while Ur in there If U plan on keeping her a while.

For real good low-mid power (TQ) cam, which ever one U pick IMO, I wouldn't get one that the intake close is over 35*..

Here's one of the best sites Ive found to look up a lot of cams and compare the specs..

Bottom line is really there's no one best cam. Woods cams are the closest that would come to that. But they're $$$$$.
Will add they will usually are at the top of class for number producing.
There newest cam of the month is the 555.
Some claim they are a littler noisy with their quick ramps. other say not.

Just do some searching and reading, then pick what U'll be happy with.
Good picks for cam only install with good low-mid-midhigh TQ would be
Andrews. 21;-26; (37 for good mid-high / high) even might look at the 48's
Crane. 300, now called 6000 or 6001 for the TC I think
Dave Mackey. 510;
Head Quarters. TC500/0034 low-mid / mid-high/ high
S&S. 510's; (551's 583's both of these now come with the EASY start built in)
SE, 203's and 204's, the 211's will work great but need a bump in compression to really shine, soft down low if not.
Woods. TW6, 555.
I did my cams 2 yrs ago.. had it done during a winter special, most dealers here in the Mid-Central states do them to keep wrench's busy in the winter. That will save some big $$ If U do Ur work from Dec to March

If U have over 15k (some say over 20K) on Ur bike, Most would say install new lifters.
Also On Ur 88"" make sure they use torrington cam bearings.

Cost for Cam job I had done In 08:
Cams, Lifters, Install, Labor, and all extra's needed (gaskets and bearings) fresh oil and that also included a "FREE" Dyno after all work was done in the special.. $895.. for everything..

Good luck and don't go nuts over thinking Ur cam choice.
