Default high/low voltage

Hey guys, just looking to see if someone can bail me out here without having to go back to the stealer. I was out for a two day ride and on the way home, i started getting a check engine light at low rpms, when i'd start the bike, and just before i'd turn it off. Once the battery light came on, and once the "key" light came on. The one time the key light came on, it stayed on after turning the bike off, and the bike wouldn't start the next time I tried it... after a min or two it fired right up. Bike seems to run fine. Anyways, I took it in on my way home to get the codes read and it came up low voltage, high voltage, high ignition voltage, high accessory voltage, high voltage, low voltage... So if figured the stator or regulator, but the dealer says if it was that, the light would stay on. He said probably dirty battery connections, but I cleaned them up, including the ground connection to the frame, and am still having this trouble. Any ideas??

OK, so since yesterday I pulled the battery box out, cleaned the live wire going to the starter (it was a little dirty) and am now only getting the light on right at start-up for about ten seconds, then nothing until the next start-up.

I'm having this issue too and it just started today. Mine stalled after the check engine light came on. Pulled over, waited a couple minutes and it fired right up. Now, like yours it stays on for about 10 seconds after startup then goes away.

The light right on start up that goes out is telling you there is a historical code stored. It should stop lighting up after 50 starts. It sounds like you have fixed it.

It sounds to me like your battery has a problem. Either it is weak and the alternator needs to work a bit harder than normal to "top it off" or there is something pulling it down with the ignition on. Lights or accessories added recently?

This could be both the generator and the battery. Personally the battery is a quick and easy fix, although it will cost a bit, I would change that first.

That would be great! I didn't realize it did that. Any other way of clearing it? I don't want to sit there starting the bike 50 times before taking the bike to my appointment on tuesday at the stealer. The whole time the bike was having this issue the light was never staying on, so I want to make sure it's fixed. Like I said, part of the problem was ignition voltage, so I'm still a little skeptical.

I'm not so sure about the battery. It's possible, but it fires right up strong as ever, even after forgetting the lights on for a few minutes, or just sitting around with the stereo on for a bit...

I just replaced my battery on my Heritage because of a similar albeit not so predictable. The bike started fine but if I put a voltage meter on it when I hit the starter it dropped below 6 volts just before starting. One advantage of Fuel injection is it starts easy and quickly. If it had to crank like a carb'd bike I don't think it would have lasted as long. Maybe you have a buddy that would swap batteries with you just to try. I still think this is a combo issue but since our bikes do not produce voltage via the alternator unless they have voltage supplied so if there is less voltage applied at the beginning right after start or if the voltage starts to drop at lower idle I could see the lights coming on. Oh and the key light will come on when volts drop below a certain value. Not sure what that is, but changing my battery did rid me of these issues.

I just re-read Drew's post. The light your talking about for 10 seconds is the key? If so, yes you can go into the code reading mode, (post pinned at the top of the forum) and clear the codes manually.
