I'm going to replace my fuel filter ('09 Heritage). I already got it prepped with the console removed and the tank all taped off and covered. Have to run to the dealer and get another panel seal first. I wanna start wrenching on my own bike so I figure why not pop my cherry on this job.

Cool, don't forget to get the 10 screws also!

Better do it in a well ventilated area, the gasoline fumes are pretty heady.

I had 33k on our 07 when the work was done.

Also had 2 friends this summer need the hoses replaced also.. The wrench's seem to thing the Ethanol is really taking its toll on them the same as a lot of boaters are now starting to have fuel problems also...

Not starting to. Been having. Ethanol and fiberglass boat tanks me huge problems. Parking your boat for the winter without using Sta-Bil means varnish on everything that flakes off and plugs up everything. Glad there's no winter here requiring boat storage and that there's no alcohol in the gas here. (Now dirt, rocks and anything else is fair game though.)

I didn't do the hoses but the filter is changed out and it looked pretty nasty. Put in some iridium plugs and she fired right up and ran excellent. I just hope she keeps running good. Going to give her about 2 weeks and if she doesn't act up I'm going to throw in some 8.8 Taylor plug wires and get her dynoed. Happy face for saving about $120 in labor costs.

This might be a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway! Why would you need to replace the little screws (12) that hold the plate down?
Had to laugh at the first video, didn't seem like that guy knew what he was doing- not sure why you'd make a video when you don't know how it is done! LoL!

Those screws have a plastic or teflon seal at the head. Once torqued to spec and then removed, that seal is broken. You might be able to reuse them, but why risk potential leak for sake of a couple of bucks?

I had the same question...but when removing the screws I saw the teflon seal that was left behind, and the new screws had the teflon sleeve near the head. Good to go.

It appears that the fuel pump & filter cavity in the tank run dry,so why would you need a gasket there anyway?

Gasket is to seal if access plate on tank. If no gasket gas would leak out of the join between access plate and tank.
