Default 09 FLSTC Tranny Problems?

I noticed a whistle type noise coming from the front of my 09 FLSTC. I took it by a local motorcycle shop and the Harley guy said it sounded like a bearing going out in the transmission. I only have 12,500 miles on the bike, ran dino until 10,000 service and switched to AMSOIL. No extended warrenty, so this is my dime. Has anyone heard of bearing failure this early on a Heritage Classic?

A whistle type noise? Are you sure it ain't a blown head gasket.

How fast do you have to be going before you notice the whistling? Does it sound like it's coming from the front wheel?

I first noticed it when coasting into the garage, motor off in neutral. Also when backing it out, motor off, transmission in neutral.

I can't figure how you're getting a whistling sound at such a low speed. Maybe a screeching sound? How is your tranny oil level?

It's most likely the brake pads rubbing on the discs. I'd find a new mechanic. You won't get noise from the tranny unless the bike is running and you're at speed.

+1 it's the sound of the drilled holes in the rotor passing the brake pads . . . very normal.

As you moveing the bike touch the brake lever and see if the noise changes.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I have hit the front brake in an attempt to change the sound. It didn't do anything. Tranny level is good, plus I just had the engine, trans. and final drive changed 2,500 miles ago and no leaks. I guess if it gets any worse, I'll take it in and have someone check it out.
Thanks again.

With motor off, nuetral. Then how could it be a tranny bearing.

Its possible that bearings can go bad at any time if maintenance is not keep up , but Very highly unusual at 12k if treated right and oil level was keep OK.

IF it was a bad bearing to begin with it wouldn't have lasted 12k!
Just changing oils to syn wont do it. I've went from Dino (when new), to syn3, to formula+, to Bel-ray, to mobil 1 GL in tranny, All suggested by our dealer except the Mobil 1 GL 75-90, which I started using at 20k and have stayed with for the last 15k.

Can U hear it at any other time while riding?

Think I'd try to pin point it down better and then find someone else to check it out.

Sound like ??? something, is a guess by someone who's not sure.
