Default motor

with all that being said i would also have the compression release installed it helps save your starter. the built motor will have higher cranking pressure putting more of a load on your starter i say its worth it.

Wow great info and folks who know their stuff. Lost me after a few sentences though:P

Off topic I know...but great to see members who roll in with the goods.

Btw $69/hr labor....damn here in Calgary it's like 100+/hr. No wonder my SE stage II kit was called pricey here in the forums.

After reading the explanation on your riding style, I'd say a good bolt-in cam will plenty for you. I'm a simple kinda guy so I don't know the numbers, don't care and my bike will probably never see a dyno. All I go by is how my bike rides and feels. I'm a pretty aggressive rider and these cams I just installed are possibly the best of the many mods I've done to my sled in the last 2 months. This thing moves! Takes off up a hill like nothing. Don't feel like I even need 6th, since 5th just goes and goes. Wood TW-555 cam, Fuel Moto quick install pushrods, and install kit (all necessary gaskets and o-rings) was $549 from Fuel Moto. Did the install myself, so with all the necessary tools and shipping, I paid around $700 for everything. Time for the self-install was probably around 10 hours, but a pro wrench could probably do it in less than half that, so you should still be sitting in under a grand if you buy the parts and have someone do the install. You'll be happy. Trust me! Call Jamie at Fuel Moto. He set you up with what you need whether it's a bolt-in cam kit like mine, or the 107" kit that's already been recommended. Thing about a good bolt-in like the 555 is that it'll run just as happily in a stock motor as it will in a bigger build, with head & valve work, which you can do later if you're not happy with just the cam. I'd do the cam for now and see what you think of that first, tho. My 2˘ worth.

U've got the 103 juggs and pistons..
If it were me, I'd look at adding some cams of Ur picking with the BB kit that has less the 37Degrees of Intake close.

The newer woods 555, TW-6, come on a little later but will scream, At a $$$. though

SE 204's or 203's, (se 211's are good If U bump Compression a little).
Headquarter TC500-HC's,
Andrews 21's, 26's or (37's more upper low- mid-high).
Dave Mackey TC510

Any of the above cams would do U a good job in the low-mid area..

Another new cam to check out is the S&S 551's.. they have CR's built in them, Son installed a set in his 10 Street Glide last fall and loves them. They rock from 1800 to 5k (never under 85#'s and max at 96#'s, A good flat line for a basically stock 96er) and still don't fall off to fast at 5800. There worth a look at. They would be my choice for my two up mostly under 3500 rpm riding style if I ever change from my 26's.

Also IMO I'd Get rid of those BSL's (They hurt low-mid TQ) and put on some BSS's or even better some 2-1's

With some better pipes and a good dyno U should see 105-110 # of TQ and 90 something HP IMO fairly easy with the 103 kit and cams. Lots depends on tune and pipes.

No need for high lift cam, valves or new springs

U should have a good dependable daily rider if not over built.

Good advise as usual. I got the woods 555 in my 96"er and was wondering if I would benifit from the cometec .030 gasket and would I need a new map. I do feel the lack of cr on the bottom end but not enough to really complain about. Just curios what your opinion would be.

I am running the andrews 37n in my 95 build. I love it but when two up loaded I do have to keep rpms up, but I did not get any head work done just a .03 gasket. Have been in the moutains, country roads and everything else in between and have never had an issue. I can out run my buddies 103 with no problem comming out of a corner. I do not have a 6th gear but from riding them I would say stay out of that if you are in the twisties. Only time you should use it is on the highway. Call some of the pros and get their advice, and then talk to your builder. You all need to be on the same page and make sure everything will work well together, and you should get a good 2into1 to help get all the torque out of the build. Good luck.

I ride much like you do and built mine with an eye towards not using compression releases while getting the most bang in the mid RPM (real world roll-on) range. I did the bike in my signature for about $800 in parts and machine shop work (boring cylinders). I also have the same A/C and Exhaust as you do.
