Default Softail Deluxe opinions.

Hello need some input. I have an ’06 XL1200C that is my around town bike but need a good long distance cruiser, that’s not to say that my Sporty is not a long distance cruiser but for the wife she wants something more rider friendly. We just got back from a cruise to Alaska and did the Panhandle Tours Harley tour in Ketchikan where we upgraded to a Softail and WOW what a difference.

So now we are looking at getting a Softail Deluxe and would like your opinion on getting the Harley accessories or after market accessories.
We’re looking at changing or installing the seat, air cleaner, floorboards, windshield, engine guards, saddle bags, back rest, mirrors, aux lights, GPS or anything else that would make a more long distance and ride able bike.

Thanks for your input.

In your case you should look at the heritage or road king, it comes with most of that and if you wanted to change them you still could and sell what came with it.

+1. Also, I like the ape hangers on the Heritage vs the beach bars on the Deluxe.

Although I am a fan of the Deluxe, for the simple reason that I do not need nor want the windshield, bags etc... I have to agree with the other guys. You should look at the Heritage.

I am in the process of converting a Deluxe to fit me after my wife decided she didn't want to ride. If you are taller than most (I am 6'), you will have to deal with the cramped riding position. I have added Carlini FlyIn Apes, forward controls, and extensions to help. However, the seat is still a problem and I am having the foam shaved to give me 2 more inches of room. Just be prepared for these issues. SJ Ron

If it is in the budget you might consider going with a Road King (Classic but I am biased) it give you the best of both touring and blvd cruising. I have done a lot of 500 mile days and more than a few 800 mile days on mine and it is much more comfortable than riding the wife's deluxe for 200 miles. I am in the 5-10 range and I feel cramped on hers, between the bars and the seat I feel like I am riding on the gauges. I usually have my feet sticking off the front of the floorboards to feel 1/2 way comfortable. Most of the bags for the deluxe are too small to carry much.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input. I'm 5'-8" and I did not have any problem with the controls, but, than again it was only a short ride, approx. 50 miles with several stops in between.

I will look at the Heritage more closely; I looked at one earlier but was thinking I could probably do the same with the Deluxe but cheaper in cost by going after market for the parts.

Thanks again for the input.
