i put the cheap lowering bolts on my 2009 fat boy and it looks awesome lowered and the ride is NO different.never bottomed out yet and im 260lbs.just set the pre load to stiff.well worth the 30 bucks and what difference in looks also.and im down 2 inches on my 200 fat rear tire.
I used 2 chrome lugs and a few 1/2" flat washers. It was under $10. How much you lower you bike is determined by how many washer you use. You won't need to remove your shocks to install this. But, you will need to reset the dampening on your shocks after the install. Which you will need to do after installing any of these kits. Also remember that as you adjust the shocks, it will raise your bike some too!
i bought the lowering kid bolts from ebay! dropped the bike 2 inches, or around there...
Looked great, rode like **** (as would anything that you basically completely compress your suspenion) but looked great... did i mention that?
i have samson true dual fish tails and they started dragging worse, obviously. Then added a 21' front wheel which changed the rake of the bike some more.
Needless to say i had to raise the bike back up for safety reasons, and so i could actually ride my woman around without my pipes permanently scraping the ground! haha
Mine bottomed out also after installing my lug nuts and washers, but YOU HAVE TO adjust your shocks after any lowering kits are installed. My shocks were on the softest setting before and they would bottom out when I hit a hard bump.
While your under there and have everything loose anyway. Go ahead and set up the shocks. I turned mine 5 rounds to bottom them out at the stiffest setting and then I backed it off 1 round. It rides better than it did before I lowered it.
I used a kit from http://www.softailloweringkit.com/ and it lowered my wife's Deluxe about 1.5" without sacrificing rideability or comfort. It was quite simple to install and you DO NOT have to remove the shocks to do it... Check out their video!
Woa, seems like a lotta Ca$h for a few parts. It does look easy tho.

Just Say'n
I though the same thing, so this is my version of this kit for about $15!
You can Take these parts and follow the directions from the kit and achieve the same thing. You wont need the washers, i was trying something and it didn't work out. Just remember to Adjust Your Shock Dampening or you'll bottom out.
ok thanks. I have seen lots of mention of them but had yet to find exactly what setup it was. I have seen the legend brand air rides
If you buy them directly through JD they are $1550.00. I am sure Drew @ DR V-TWIN can get you a little better price. I have yet to figure out what part of them is worth $1550.00. I've looked all over them in pics and still can't find any 24K gold. I guess they need to pay for all of the R&D and Manufacturing.
