BTW Jim your bike still looks like a Lo:P But serious, your bike is an inspiration for many like myself. First custom Lo I saw as yours when I was deciding on buying the Lo or not last winter. Definitely a Lo from a mile. And gratz on your magazine plugs..well deserved.
Now why did us Lo's buy them in the first place, when we could of dropped a regular ourselves if folks are not fan of matte/denim? If I wasnt so much of a denim black fan, I would of dropped the regular fatboy and had more eye candy options for chrome, gloss and custom paint. One thing I noticed that the Lo owners haven't done much in changing the look besides a few customs here and there. So, did we buy them for black wheels and to save a few $$ on a drop kit?
Folks dont get me wrong please, I am not bashing our preferences at all. I am just curious why we picked the Lo if we dont care for denim or matte in the first place.

Quite frankly, my guess is that HD thought they could capture more of the motorcycle market by offering a lower bike to those who are vertically challenged out the door instead of trying to pursuade potential first-time buyers to spend more up front and wait longer while they lowered a bike that is already higher priced than many other brands.
I'd also guess that HD thought they could sell more Lo's too if they added additional colors since they have added more than just black to the stock line up and have custom tins available for the Lo. This is also something that probably appeals to an uncaptured female market and those males who are tired of black bikes.
Personally, I didn't give a damn if my Lo was Vivid Black or Denim Black and I told the dealer than when they asked what color I wanted. When they told me they could get in a Vivid Black model from one of their other stores, I purchased it. I just wanted a black bike that was lower out the door despite the fact they told me they could lower any of the other bikes as well. The wheels had nothing to do with my choice, especially since they can easily be changed just like many of the other parts. Hence, I agree with the "canvas" post.

Perhaps, those other owners are jealous. Of all the people I've rode with, none have ever made a derogatory comment about my bike and actually have asked quite a few questions about it. The fact is that some keep a close eye on my bike since at times I've made a very subtle change and they have noticed it. They all seem to know and realize it's about choice (and money of course) whether to go chrome or blacked out. After all, some prefer blondes while others prefer red heads or brunettes.
I myself am a proud Lo owner and in a month or two will be PC'n my gloss black to match the denim....like many here in this community have. My first thoughts last winter when staring at my bike on the showrrom floor was 'why didnt HD get rid of all the gloss since most black parts are in matte?' Anyways, I am sure many like myself accepted it as a future change.
Now reading more threads about the LO, I am finding that some regular fatboy loyalists dont really care for the Lo's partially due to the all black flavor of the month and other reasons. I understand somewhat. Personally the HD matte wheels is what caught my eye in the first place...as a keeper in case they discontinue in the future and at the same time have most of the bike to match. Otherwise, the regular fatboy I would of went with due to more color and chrome options.
With that said, makes one think since the regular fatboy is about color/gloss and chrome, why not make the Lo exclusive to denim only paints and actually separate the two? Even get rid of the chrome entirely and go straight polished alum look...but I understand that may not be practical for HD to stock parts for. Btw I am always getting compliments on how denim goes well with that brushed alum. That way, Lo's will be more than just black wheels and a lower seat imo....and help keep both sides of the fatboy a little more content.
Doesn't matter what color it comes in or what color you prefer.. you should be making enough changes to it to make it your own anyway; like JIMSFBL said. Some people even add custom paint-jobs to it anyway or change the color to one not offered at all. Can't get more "Make it Your Own" then that.
