Thanks for all the reply's! I thought running gear oil such as 75-90 was corrosive to soft metals in the tranny?? Also, wouldn't running Mobil 1 15W-50 be almost the same as running Syn3? Any negatives with the Formula+? Thanks!
Just my opinion but I would not run any thicker lubricant in transmission then Harley says. Some people think they need to quiten the clunk which is the square drive dogs dropping in. The gear teeth are always engaged. Problem lies in the small needle roller bearings in the inner input shaft that runs in the outer output shaft. Too thick and you have less chance of flushing crud thru. Usually the bearing are the hardest piece in there and they flatten the crud and move on. If they get stuck and start sliddings rather then rolling, the bearing life will shorten. Just my opinion.
I partially agree with your opinion not to run thicker fluid than what the manufacturer recommends. I do run the 75W-110 Amsoil because it's Synthetic. I would not run this thick of a fluid in a straight fossil product.

Heavy Duty Platinum 6-speed Transmission Oil: Designed by Spectro in response to complaints from Harley owners about the great but noisy new 6-speed transmission. This full synthetic provides ultimate lubrication protection. Formulated to significantly reduce gear noise and provide easier, smoother shifting. This SAE 75w140 formulation eases shifting when cold. High loads and extreme heat do not affect the oil, so it performs well when pushed hard and long.
There you go! Been using for 3 years in my Deuce. Best thing I've done for my bike.
