I notice that on some "baggertail" mounting brackets, there is no cross-strut that goes beneath the rear fender and around the tire to connect the left and right side mounts. Does anyone know how important (effective) that cross-strut is? Will I be OK without it? (Note that Cavalry doesn't have it in their design: http://www.cavalryfiberglass.com/sto...pk9fap6i8crdf6 , whereas Cyclevisions does: http://www.cyclevisions.com/index.ph...k-cv7200a.html )
I have an aftermarket rear fender (Klock Werks Benchmark) on my 2005 Fatty and I'm concerned the cross-strut won't fit on my bike.
I had that set up on a 07 Deluxe once, the cross over brace fit with room to spare but with out it there would be no support. I do not think Harley has changed the fenders on the deluxe in years so go and compare your fender to one at the dealership. The people at Cyclevision are great to work with they may be able to help also.
My friend went with the Sumax bag system which did not have a crossover brace and it was a nightmare for her. Her hard bags bounced and cracked all over. She ended up having a custom brace fabricated.
I have the Cycle Visions Tail Bagger and am 100% pleased, no problems at all, no bouncing.
