Hey fellas I'm looking for some information/experiences in Daytona. I'm going down for the first time next month for biketoberfest and want to be prepared. My question is how strict are the cops with ape hangers? I have 18"s on my softail and sitting on the bike my grips are above my head. Now I live in Pa where there are no restrictions for bar height and I know Florida does. I was just curious if I'm going to have any problems with local police giving me a hard time about the bars... Thanks in advance for any information.
I went to bike week with an obnoxiously loud sporty with apes over my shoulders (i.e. not in compliance with the law) and didn't get pulled.
However, my friend who has gone to more bike rallies than I'll ever see says that if the po-po CAN pull you over in Daytona, they WILL pull you over - it is just a matter of time (meaning a very short amount of time).
Over your head is bound to attract that attention. Be ready to loosen those riser bolts and pull 'em on down.

I agree, I have been to both Bike week and Biketoberfest the last 4 years and have seen many bikes with real tall apes get busted.
Also, just a heads up...if your cruising down main street, dont get on the throttle real hard, the cops will bust you in a heartbeat and cite you for excessive noise, see a lot people nabbed for it. They think no cop is around, then bam, they walk out of the crowd lol.
There was a time during bikeweek that you would get a ticket and once you got one, you didn't get any more. I don't know if they are still doing that or if they do anything during biketoberfest... but like someone else said, I have seen them pull over the really tall ones. I think their ordinance is 15" if I remember correctly.
I have never had a problem. I use to have 18's,they were barely over my shoulder. Don't ride like an *******,and don't show off. You should have nothing to worry about.
