Let me chime in, I have had the CrossBones floorboards installed into my 01FXST, the first week I kinda hated those heel shifters, was about to remove them.
Let me tell you now I LOVE THEM, and won't ever want to do without them.
it is a bonus if you want to squid it (i.e. wear none motrocycle shoes) they keep the shoes in perfect condition as you don't damage the top of the shoe shifting up.
You will quickly learn to now wear bell bottoms as they catch the levers .
I have an 07 Ultra Classic, my first Harley-Davidson with the heel-toe shifter and I think its so much easier than just a toe shifter. Toe down heel up that's the way to go in my opinion. To each his or her own is what I say, it's a matter of preference. I had a friend that took his heel shifter off, says he likes the additional room it allows for on the floorboard. Oh and the floorboard does not get in the way at all.
I went to Reno this last weekend and tried to get myself to use the heel-toe shifter. I accidentally shifted twice on a few occasions and in high wind lifting my foot up to hit it isn't worth it. I did like the feeling of stomping on it to shift gears though. I don't think that makes it worth losing the foot room though.

yepppers when I wear my patent leather go-go boots ,I put the heel shifter back on.
But I did learn in about 1952 , that wide legged pants are not for riding any two wheeler.
caught my pants in the chain on a bicycle once , fell down and took the playing cards right off my clothespin that was holding them against the spokes ..torn jeans ,skinned up body , no more "Motor sound" on my bicycle" ..hard lesson , never forgot
I have always used the toe shift method since the early 70's. Can't get used to the heel shift and today, I got my jeans hung up on it while coming to a red light. I'm going to take it off tomorrow and get an end cap to cover the splined shaft.
