IMO, black is the hardest paint to custom match. I had my chopped fat boy fender at a good shop to have repainted (had some scratches and bubbles from the previous owner's paintjob). We went through a lot of samples...it's hard to match the right color - either too black or not black enough. In fact, compared to some of the samples, the black denim had more of a blue tint than black... And then once you throw on a flat clear, it can completely change the sheen. You can buy harley paint but I've been told it's really expensive. And again, the flat clear can change the sheen. I decided not to spend the money (quoted $250 for my rear fender) and was nervous about the match, so I just took it back and reinstalled the stock ducktail fender.
I get all my PC parts done in BK03. That is the code that my PCer uses for the color.
Its a pretty damn close match to the denim. You have to get real close to notice a difference. Its got the color of the denim/wrinkle....but not that rough crazy finish. Everything comes out smooth and looking good.
If you look in my sig pic, I had the SE Heavy Breather PCed in BK03.
Aye! Problem is I dont trust myself since I never painted before...might just have to drop the fender and a few cans of denim to a pro. None of them suggested supplying the cans though.
Thanx man for the help.
No better time to learn! I never really painted before doing this. Check out the brake rotors, belt pulley and mufflers. I painted 'em all myself and imho, I think they turned out looking pretty pimp.
Just practice, on a piece of scrap, even coats and the more coats you add the richer the color gets there is only 1 tone of black the more coats you add the darker it gets hahahaha

I'm a big believer in many thin coats, too, instead of a few thick coats. You should still see primer after your first coat.

Man I hate you for showing that lol. I love the two tone orange and that seat...gob gob! I am a huge matte black fan...and two toning matte with gloss orange has me thinking now. Thanx alot haha.
But ya... Thanx guys for helping me out in the thought process.

This is sort of what I am worried about. Thing is my budget always has room for decisions like this. I am curious though...and may experiment on some scrap for the hell of it.
Denim black & brushed chrome/alum look (ie bars, light trims...)
Already found a plating shop when the parts start coming off. Not blacking all out...just want to get rid of gloss and shiney chrome.
Have you had any parts plated yet? I've been trying to find a place to do satin chrome and the one place that can do it does not want to do small batches.

Not yet..once I get all my parts. Where I live (Calgary Canada), there is a place called albertaplating.com. $30 a foot on pipes is example of what they charge. Also from talking to their shop, they have a bunch of finishes to choose from. When that time comes, I will go down and look at samples before deciding.
