Congratulations and welcome to the Deluxe Family.
You'll gain a lot from a riders course. Spend some time in an empty parking lot and get to know your clutch / friction zone and discover how balanced and awesome the Deluxe handles. Ride safe... have fun!
Here's a picture of me after my first ride! A happy man indeed. So glad I went with the Deluxe. It felt huge at first, now after a couple of days of riding it. Its a perfect fit. Thanks for all the advice guys, much obliged.

You look good on it, bro. Ride safe and congrats!! Remember, you're on a Harley. You dont play by anybody's rules. Ride at YOUR OWN pace.. I'm looking forward to seeing your many mods ahead. Hahahaha!!!

I took my bike out today for the first time...Just some simple neighborhood cruising up and down the block. Second ride, took it to the gas station about a mile away. Third ride, took it a little further. THIS BIKE IS AWESOME!!! I think I need to blow off work the rest of the week and just ride. I really learned one thing today. I HATE GETTING OFF OF MY BIKE.
Going to take the riders class in a couple of weeks just to be safe. But I must admit. I havent smiled this much in a long effing time! I feel good.
Haha it's easy to equate the joy with being 5 and shedding the training wheels for the first time....hell I didn't want to come home after that just like today:P
Btw have you taken a bike course? Well worth the $$. I took mine this spring finally...and wow, it sure exposed my weaknesses.
I agree, take a motorcycle course, though the bikes they use are 250s and will make your Deluxe seem like a mack truck.
Parking lots are a very good idea - the hardest part of a bike is going slow - and when you feel comfortable remember interstate driving is probably the safest -- no intersections! Stay at 65 mph and it's safe as hell...
Safety course for me is on the schedule next month. Even though I am getting more and more comfortable each ride. I am certain I will learn a hell of a lot more by taking the class.
As far as mods go. HOLY $HIT! I feel like a kid in a candy store man. The coolest part is that you can basically turn a totally stock bike into a one-off custom with some chrome and add-ons. I went through the Harley Catalog last night and earmarked a bunch of stuff. Added it all up at the end and already have $800 bucks worth of shiny new stuff picked out. ADDS UP REAL QUICK!!! Engine guard, gear shifter, toe shifter, braided cables, axle nuts, master cylinder, volt reg. cover, hand grips, foot pegs, air cover cleaner, gas cap.
Im a pretty handy guy, can just about build or fix anything. But being this is my first bike, should I let Harley do the mods/additions or do them myself?
