I'm putting 2" under fork tubes in my FBL. Does anyone know if there is a reduction in the amount of fork oil with putting in shorter tubes? The short tubes are 20-1/4 vs. the 22-1/4 stockers.
I'm not sure of the difference between the FL and the FX but on my night train when I went 2 under tubes I used 9oz in each and went with SE extra heavy racing fork oil. It's pretty stiff and I'm planning on rebiulding my frontend soon this time I'm gonna try SE heavy fork oil just soften it up just a little. Hope this helps you?
the oil height is the same as stock until you modify the ride by air spring. The oil volume would have to be less. I never use volume as a measurement.

This.
Howard is talking about the air space, which is an air spring. Changing the oil level (volume) only effects this air spring.
Measure the air space from the top of the oil to the top of the tube.
If you want the same ride, then it should be at the same level as the old forks, which means you'll have to use less oil.
You can change the ride by adjusting the oil height (air spring) and/or the fork oil viscosity.
